RESEARCH DESIGN

RESEARCH DESIGN
The research design refers to the overall strategy that a researcher choose to
integrate the different components of the research in a coherent and logical way
so that the researcher effectively addresses the research problem. It is a
framework for planning the research and answer the research questions.
It constitutes the blueprint for:
• The collection
• Measurement, and
• Analysis of the data
The researcher has to keep in mind certain points while creating the
research design:
• The type of data needed
• The location and timescale of the research
• The participants and sources
• The variables and hypotheses (if relevant)
• The methods for collecting and analysing data
CHARACTERISTICS OF RESEARCH DESIGN
There are four key characteristics of research design:
• Neutrality
• Reliability
• Validity
• Generalization
TYPES OF RESEARCH DESIGN
Research design can be broadly classified as:
• Qualitative
• Quantitative

 QUALITATIVE RESERACH DEISGN: A qualitative research design is
used to explore the meaning and understanding of complex social
environments, like the nature of people’s experience, using case studies.
 QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH DESIGN: A quantitative research
design is used where it is important for the researcher to have statistical
conclusion to collect actionable insights. It is important for the growth
of the organisation because conclusions drawn on the basis of numbers
will only prove to be effective for the business.
• Descriptive research design: In descriptive research design a
researcher is interested in describing a particular situation or phenomena
under his study. It is a theoretical type of researcher design based on the
collection designing and presentation of the collected data. Descriptive
research designs help provide answers to the questions of who, what,
when, where, and how associated with a particular research problem
