Three basic food groups

- something that you eat to make you
grow and prolong your life.
- gives your body strength and energy
- necessary for our health and well-being.
~ Nutrition is the process by which a person
takes in and makes use food substance.

Group I :
The Body-Building or “Grow” Foods
- rich in protein, which make the body grow
tall and healthy.
- help build muscles and bones; repair and
restore broken and injured parts of he body.
- Sources of protein:
~milk, milk products, and eggs
~beans, peas, legumes, and nuts
~ meat and poultry
Group ii :
The Energy and Heat-Giving or “Go” Foods
- rich in carbohydrates, fats, and oils which
give heat and energy to the body.
- Sources of carbohydrates:
~Rice, corn and other cereals
~Root crops (ex. Gabi, ube, camote)
~ sugar, chocolates, and starches
- Sources of fats and oils:
~Butter, cheese, pork fats, margarine &
nuts
Group iii :
The Body-Regulating and Protecting or “Glow” Foods
- rich in vitamins and minerals which make our body
resistant to diseases or illnesses.
-help in the proper digestion and elimination of
waste and fight infection.
- nourish the body resulting clear skin, bright eyes,
and shiny hair.
- Sources of vitamins and minerals:
~vegetables
~fruits
~Sea foods
