- A combination of different formats such as text,
graphics, drawings, audio, photos and videos
with the help of computers.

MULTIMEDIA OR MULTIPLE MEDIA
- Is a way of perceiving information by combining
modalities such as text, visuals, audio or sound and
others.
INFORMATION
- Is stored, transmitted, presented or perceived in any
combination of the said forms of media (Parekh,
2006).
- People who create multimedia information are called
authors and the process, is called authoring (Parekh,
2006).
Multimedia Is Nonlinear
• Nonlinearity, in this sense, refers to being able to
navigate from one point in a presentation to another at
any given time without being restricted of the
chronological or logical sequencing of the content of
the multimedia presentation.
• Multimedia content can exploit the use of hypertexts
or hyperlinks that can bring the user back and forth to
the origin and the destination.
Advantage of Multimedia
Information
• Multimedia enhances the effect of text presentations
• Improves the quality of presentation and retains the
attention of audience.
• It can be used for educational as well as entertainment
purpose.
• It is quick and easier to operate for the instructor.
• Multimedia presentations can be modified very easily.
• It provides a non-threatening environment for a learner to
study at their own pace.

students can learn real-world skills related to
technology.
• They will know the value of teamwork and the
importance of effective collaboration techniques.
• It helps the learners to express and represent their
prior knowledge and provides them with many
learning opportunities.
Disadvantage of Multimedia
Information
• Use of multimedia is expensive video files can be large
and a long download time.
• may leave some students with nothing to do.
• Sometimes, diverts students’ attention to the pictures,
sounds or relevant material presented in multimedia.
• Sometimes, excessive information about certain topic
leads to cognitive overload and it becomes difficult
for the students to understand all the information
presented to them.
Disadvantage of Multimedia
Information
• It can be incredibly difficult for teachers to monitor all
the students, and some may play games or surfing
the web instead of focusing on the work at hand.
• One concern with computers is that they can reduce
learning demands on students. With access to the
web comes millions of pieces of information, many of
which contain answers to common problems from
school. Students can use computers to do less work
or even to cheat.
