Measures of

Central
Tendencies
MEAN
MEDIAN
Mean
Is the average of the scores the
mathematical center of the
distribution. It is used with the
symmetrical, unimodal
distribution of interval or ratio
scores.
Formula: x= x/n
36, 30, 31, 33, 29

 Solution
Formula: x= x/n
Where: x = mean
x= items/score
n= number of items
Then,
x= (36+30+31+33+29)/5
x= 31.8
Median
Is the value that has exactly half
the data above it and half below
it.
It is the middle number when
the data are arranged in order
Formula: ((n+1)/2)
40, 42, 42, 42, 43, 44, 45, 45, 50

 Solution
Formula: (n+1)/2
n=9

= (9+1)/2
=5
Therefore the 5th number to the above given is the media.
Median= 43
Standard
Deviation
Is another measure of variation

that describes how scattered the
data are with respect to the
mean of the given data.
Variance
Is almost similar to standard
deviation. They both measure
the spread of data with respect
to the mean.
