 Computer cannot understand our language

because it understands only machine

language and it can be possible using some
devices,are called input devices .
 When we work with computer we need to
enter data and instructions to the computer
using these devices .
 These devices convert data and instructions
to a form that can be recognized by the
computer.
 An input devices for a computer allows you to
enter information .
 The most fundamental pieces of information are
keystroke on a keyboard and clicks with a mouse.
 These two input devices are essential for you to
interact with your computer .
 Many other input devices exist for entering other
types of information, such as images , audio and
vedio .
 Input devices represent one type of
computersecondary .

 Bar Code Reader
 Optinal Mark Reader(OMR)
 Keyboard is the most popular as well as commonly used input
devices, which helps to input data to the computer.
 Christopher Latham sholes was the inventor of the keyboard
for computing devices.
 The layout of the keyboard is like that of traditional
typewriter, which uses arrangement of buttons or keys.
There are two types of keyboard
1 . Standard (Basic) Keyboard :- This is a
keyboard designed during the 1800s for
mechanical typewriters with just 10 function
keys (F keys) placed at the left side of it.
2 . Enhanced (Extended) Keyboard :- This is
the current 101 to 102/108-key keyboard that
is included in almost all the personal
computers (PCs) of nowadays, which has 12
function keys at the top side of it.
 1 . Typewriter keys ( typing keys)
The centre of the keyboard. which contains the largest amount of keys,
includes (A-Z) and numbers (0-9). Most typing is done with this keys.

 2 . Numeric keys(17 keys)

Many larger keyboards have an extra section to the right that contains
the numeric keypad this consists
 numbers(1-9)

 asterisk(*)

 slash(/)

 dash

 plus sign(+)
 The twelve function keys are present on the keyboard which are arranged in
a row at the top of the keyboard
 Each key is composed of letter f and a number ranging from F1 to f12 Each
of the function keys performs a specific operation based upon what software
is been used .

4 . Control keys
 This key provide cursor and screen control. It includes four
directional arrow keys called navigation arrow
 i.e ( up, down, left and right),and also end home page, delete and
insert etc
These are keys of the keyboard used for punctuation, examples
include comma, full stop, colon, question marks, hyphen, etc.

6 . Special purpose keys

Other keys include the alternate (alt) and control (Ctrl)-( used for
specific function), the tab key( used to insert the cursor), the shift key (
used to make capital letters or symbols), space bar, print screen and
numlock etc
 Ithas its own processor and circuitry that
carries information to and form that
processed.
 A large part of this circuitry makes up the key
matrix.
 The key matrix is a grid of circuits
underneath the keys.
 Each circuit is broken at a point below each
key.
 When you press a key it presses a
switch.completing the circuit and allowing a
tiny amount of current to flow through.
 The machincal action of the switch cause
some vibration,called bounce, which the
processor filters out.
 If you press and hold a key the processer
recognizes it as the equivalent of pressing a
key repeatedly.
What is Mouse ?
 A Mouse is an external computer hardware device

 It allows a user to control the motion of computer cursor ,it also select
object on the screen by moving the device
 During the 1980 computer mice with became the the dominant way for
people to interface with personal computer after testing with various device
stored in convenient and simple to use
 The mouse works on the basic principle that moment of the device is
translated into the movement off the cursor on the screen.
 The first computer mouse was publicly unveiled
in 1968 by its inventor DOUGLAS C ENGELBERT .
 It was made up of wood.

 Types of mouse
 wireless
 optical
 Gstick

 Mechanical
 Trackball
Wireless mouse the mouse without wire or cord is called
wireless mouse or cordless mouse most wireless mice used
radio frequency technology to communicate information to
your computer

Optical mouse
An optical mouse is an computer pointing device that uses a light emitting
diode and optical sensor and digital signal processing this mouse does not
have Mouse ball and electromechanical transducer movement is detected by
sensing changes in reflected light instead of interpret entering the motion of a
rolling sphere
G stick Mouse Gordon Stewart designed the stick to add a
more authentic and natural feel to artistic manipulations on
both Macs and pcs * these mice are wireless and a pocket
sized it looks like a pencil.

Mechanical mouse

Mechanical Mouse or ball Mouse a mechanical Mouse is a computer

hardware input device comprised of a metal or rubber ball in its underside
moving the mouse cause the ball to roll and sensor inside the mouse
detect the movement of the ball and consequently send signal to the
cursor on the screen
 Trackball Mouse a trackball Mouse is a
pointing device , it consists of a ball held by a
socket containing sensors to detect rotation
of the ball the user role the born with the
thumb fingers on the palm of the hand to
move pointer
 Move the mouse cursor ,the primary function is
to move the mouse cursor on the screen to open
or execute a program once you have both the
cursor to an icon folder or other object clicking
or double clicking that object opens the
document or execute the program.
 Drag and drop once something is selected it can
also be moved using the track and drop method
 Scroll when working with the long document for
viewing a long web page you may need to scroll
up or down which can be done using the mouse
wheel or clicking a dragging the scroll bar.
