 Hello friends,

 Today I am going to share with you about the

need for taking up the preparation for the
Stenography as a Project in itself.

I have chosen this subject so as to guide the

candidates to realize that there is a need to
understand the importance of this skill and take
it seriously and in the right spirit.

 Once we decide to learn this skill, whatever the

reasons may be, we need to take it as a time-
bound Project to achieve our objective.

 Unless and until we take the ownership of the

entire Project ourselves, the things are not
going to happen.

 Let us first of all see what exactly are the steps

required when we undertake something as a
Project.

 3. RESOURCES (coaching expenses)

 4. ACTUAL
WORK PERFORMANCE AND
PERIODICAL REVIEW

 Now, let us see how to deal with the above

steps
 1. SCOPE.
The scope, of course, is going to be learning
the skill of Stenography (shorthand and
typing) with a minimum speed of 80 wpm to
get a job, preferably in a Government
Department.

 2. Duration.

In case we are serious of completing our

Project within a reasonable and realistic
time-frame, the duration can be 18-24
months and accordingly, the time-line can
be fixed. For those who are already in
service, this can vary depending upon the
situation.

 3. Resources (books/coaching of written &

skill)
 This needs to be discussed with parents
and/or anyone else who is going to help on
the financial and other support.

 4. Actual work and periodical Review

 Identify the place and institute/coaching
centre for written and stenography.

 For English shorthand learning preferably

choose Pitman’s book with Instructor and key.
 Preferably use pencil for shorthand writing
 Finish theory in max 4-6 months
 Start learning typing simultaneously
 StartKC magazine after covering minimum
145 exercises of the theory book – cover
beyond that simultaneously with the
magazine.

 Do one transcription daily of unseen passage

 Preferably type the transcription
 After checking the transcription, practice the
difficult words and phrases and then re-write
the whole passage minimum 3-4 times or till
you are satisfied that you are perfect in that.
 Focus on accuracy and not on speed – whether
typing or shorthand

 Be regular and punctual in coaching – no

breaks of any sort, EXCEPT FOR PHYSICAL
INABILITY
 Focussed preparation – for written and skill
 Start learning Typing preferably from day-1
 Give the skill “Top priority”
 Be prepared to work hard (say of 6-8 hours
in a day) – shorthand practice of min 3-4 hrs
in a day.

 Start applying for any job (Clerk/Typist/

Asstt/Stenographer etc), whenever and
wherever you are eligible, even if you have
not acquired proficiency in the skill or written
test because it takes its own time for the
exam to happen and may be your status is
quite better than what it is on the date of
applying.
 For women candidates, in most of the
Government jobs, there is no fee and they
must avail such opportunities.

 The other reason is that it also helps to deal

with the nervousness issue during the exam.
The more you appear in exams, the more you
are able to prepare/test yours status. I have
seen that those who start applying only after
they are proficient tend to take more time in
completing the entire exercise.

 Preferably no study or anything except for

Stenography – people do graduation which
does not help in any way.

 Personally, I am not in favour of continuing

anything else – I mean any other academic
course like graduation etc - along with the
preparation for Stenography written and skill.
It distracts the focus and delays the getting of
the job. The graduation, which is just an
addition, can be done after getting the job. I
am supporting this based on my own
experience. These days, fortunately, distance
learning is easily available and can be done
along with the job.

 Just imagine the following 3 situations:-

 1. A
person with 10+2 getting a Gr D/C job of a
Stenographer after 2 years without
pursuing graduation.
 2.Another person with 10+2 getting a Gr D/C job
of a Stenographer after 3-4 years with
pursuing graduation
 2. Another person with 10+2 not pursuing
anything but only graduation for 3 years without
any job.
 Now,you need to take a call in which situation you
would like to be.

 Some other important TIPS

 Discipline yourself
 Develop a habit of making small daily
commitment/s to yourself and fulfil those.
 Use your time properly – use technology
wherever it facilitates your but it should not be
an obstruction.
 Manage and measure your day’s performance
at the end of the day – one who is able to
manage/utilize his day well, can manage his
life well.

 In case you find things are not happening as

planned, review the situation and take
corrective action to ensure your growth.
 Avoidshort-cuts of learning shorthand which
may not be ultimately good for you.
 This
is the golden time of your life – focus and
make your career.
 Govt. job is well-paid and has lot of social
security – it is very much recommended for
women candidates

 It is time to become responsible and

independent and make your parents/family
comfortable.
 Let us find ways of doing the things and not
of not doing the things.
 Those who take this time seriously their rest
of the life becomes smooth.
