Damage Mechanisms of Structure Steel

Common structure steel (SS) members are

generally constructed from plain low carbon steel.
During the service life, various damage
mechanisms in SS can develop. The primary
damage mechanisms, developed in SS operating at
ambient temperatures are; ductile failure, brittle
fracture, buckling failure, fatigue failure and
corrosion. It is, therefore, essential that these
damage mechanisms are timely addressed for
ensuring integrity of the SS.
