Relationship

of Theories to
Nursing
Process
The nursing process, a tool for nursing practice, has been
described and discussed by most of the nursing theorists. This is
because the nursing process of assessment, diagnosis,
planning, implementation/intervention and evaluation have
been good source of ideas for nursing theories. Nurse
interactions, decision-making, conceptualization as well as
ideas related to priority setting in many nursing theories are
derived from the concept of nursing process.

2
Nursing process plays a very important role in the process
of nursing theory development. The concepts and process of
assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementing and evaluation
have been used to test theories in the clinical fields, aside from
being sources of data and questions to be studied.

Nursing Theory Nursing Process

Theory provides the nurse with goals
for nursing care. By being goal directed,
nursing practice is rendered more efficient and
effective. The theory help to identify the focus,
the goals and the means of pratice. As theory
evolves, nurses became more confident and
gain more control over practice because their
actions are based on the tested theory.
