Special Machines

Special machines are those which are technically

and functionally little different from rest of the
conventional DC machines
PMDC MOTOR
A permanent-magnet dc (PMDC) motor is similar to an
ordinary dc shunt motor except that its field is provided by
permanent magnets instead of salient-pole wound-field
structure. Fig (a) shows 2-pole PMDC motor and fig(b)
shows a 4-pole wound-field motor for comparison purposes.

BI-POLAR DC BRUSHLESS DC MOTOR
(FULL WAVE BRUSHLESS DC MOTOR)

Circuit diagram:
* Three Phase Dc Brushless Motor Is Excited By Three
Phase Bridge Circuit.
* This Circuit Is Similar To The Bridge Inverter Circuit But,
The Feed Back Diodes Are Used To Return The
Inductive Energy To The Supply.
* The Word ‘Bi-polar’ Means The Winding Is Energized
Alternatively In Both South And North Poles.
* In The Case Of Unipolar, We Used Electro-optical
Sensors For Detecting Rotor Position.
* But Here We Will Be Using The Hall Effect Sensors For
Detecting Rotor Position.
* Three hall effect sensors are used and hall sensors are
each 120◦ electrically apart and magnetic ring mounted
on rotor shaft and which rotates with rotor.
* the switching of each transistor is in response to the
rotor position sensor.
* the transistor are triggered sequentially
Q1,Q2,Q3,Q4,Q5,Q6.
* each transistor conducts for 120◦ and at any time two
transistors can conduct where each pair conducts for 60◦.
* application: this type of brushless dc motor are used for
high performance servodrives.
