INTRODUCTION

To get the optimum methane for biogas need a

heterogenous biomass feedstock. It should consist of
carbon, nitrogen, phorphorus and sulphur in the
mixture. In addition, we should have a much better
controlled of the anaerobic digestion process that
involves process analitycal technology (PAT) tools to
monitoring and manage the process.
Process Analysis and Monitoring

 Basic Process Analysis

because the substrats for biogas production
are very heterogeneous and have a complex process
so it have to analysis. The analysis parameters
includes:
1. Composition of the substrats
2. Various Pretreatment
3. Feeding rate and temperature controll
Therefore, the analysis is needed to
maintained and manipulate the stage of the process
to monitoring the biogas plant.
 Basic Process Monitoring
Usually the control process that monitore in
daily evaluation is the easily measurable
parameters such as pH, Temperature, biogas
production rate, volume and quality.
But, the regular analysis is often limited due
to the high cost such as the analysis for:
1. TS
2. Volatile organic acid
3. Ammonia, Nitrogen and VFA
The Advances in Process Monitoring

To effectively increase the economic of biogas

plant is needed to optimize of the process capacity
that can only be done by applying advanced on-line
monitoring, by identifying chemical and physical
parametersthat give warning of the process to
improve the efficiency.
Monitoring the Produced Biogas

The biogas production can be measure as the

methane yield that can be measure use gas sensor.
The low methane yield indicated that fermentation
process was disturbed.
Biogas Production in Wastewater Treatment Plant

In waste water treatment plants, organic

removal is an important indicator of effectiveness of
the process that express as are TS, VS, COD, and
BOD removal. The BOD give important information
about easily biodegradable organic substances, which
can be correlated to total biogas production.
VFA Monitoring as a Useful Process Control tool

VFA measurement is the best parameters

for indicating instabilities since the xoncentration
of the compounds gives a signal on the state of the
internal environment and process of the digestion
process. VFA concentration measure by Gas
Chromatography or High perfomance Liquid
Chromatography
Other Important Analytics and process Information

Beside VFA, alkalinity measurement also

canbe parameters of online monitoring. Increasing
VFA will consume alkalinity before change pH, so
it thus alternative to measure pH. For example of
alkalinity measurement is ammonia monitoring.
All these analitycs and mionitoring is
important because appropriate process information
regarding to anaerob digestion process can use to
optimize productivity and quality of methane yield
and to improve the effficiency of the process
optimation.
