ROLE AND METHODE:

ORAL RADIOGRAPHIC EXAMINATION

LYDIA KUNTJORO
RADIOLOGY DEPARTMENT
MEDICAL FACULTY OF DIPONEGORO UNIVERSITY
BASIC RADIOLOGI

• EQUIPMENT : x ray mechine and film

• RADIATION PROTECTION : protection from the harmfull effect of X-ray
• RADIOGRAPHY : techniques in producing various radiographic images
• RADIOLOGY : interpretation  understanding from 3D to 2D
• RADIOGRAPHY SHADOW : RADIOOPAQ ( white), RADIOLUCENT ( black)
• Shadow density is effected by :
• Type of material
• Thickness or density of material
• Shape of the object
• Intesity of X ray beam used
i : 4 cylinders from front view, made of plaster
i : cylinders from front
ii: plan vies wirh varying internal design and thickness
ii: same shape different material : A plaster, B plastic, C metal, D wood
iii: radiograph similar cylinders, similar shape and material, differenct
iii: same shape different material of cylinders object density, produce defferent images
3D 2D
Quality of radiographic images

• Contrast
• Geometry : position of film, object, and X ray beam
• Object and film should in close together as possible
• Object and film should be parallel to on another
• X ray tubehead shoul be postioned so the beam meet the object and film in
the right angles
• Characteristic of the X ray beam
• Image sharpness and resolution
X ray beam characteristic
IMPORTANT : INFECTION CONTROL
• Training infection control procedure and monitoring for all staff
• All clinical staff should ne vaccinated against Hep B
• Open wounds on the hand should be covered with waterproof
dressing
• Medical gloves
• Eye protection
• Mask
• Film packets and holder should be placed on disposiblle trays to
ovoid contamination
• Prevent salivary contamination of film packets, should be placed in
small barrier envelopes
• Digital radiography sensors must also be placed inside appropriate
barrier envelopes
• Contaminated displosable tray should be discharded into suitable
clinical waste disposable bag
