DESIGN
PHILOSOPHIES
DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
➤ Ar. Hafeez Contractor had just not grown only as a well-known face in the architecture fraternity but for his surrealistic
designs, he also as a man whose design approaches are in response to current demand.
➤ Ar. Contractor's constant belief, which he perceives has brought him to where he is today, is that architecture
should be honest and should respond to the spirit of time, characterises by distinct ideas, disparate
missions, contrasting convictions and divergent preferences.
➤ Ar. Contractor's passion is to create structures that exemplify functional and aesthetic qualities. He has shaped and
changed the urban built landscape of the country through provocative, unpredictable and revolutionary ideas, while executing a
wide range of architectural projects.
➤ He is advocating for vertical growth of cities, judicious land use and the need for sustainable compact cities,
to maintain a perfect harmony between increasing population and limited land resources. Ar. Contractor's
special emphasis is also on social housing and his dream is to provide a house for every Indian.
➤ He is of the view that an architect should be very clear for whom (clients) he is creating; what should be incorporated
in design that becomes unique once completed and draws others' attention. Also he should consider what will be its
impact on the society, people and environment.
➤ His design philosophy and thought process is not bound to one, but it varies depending upon the project,
construction sites, client's demand, budget, etc. that he is dealing with. He solely believes in giving the
need of a client, the utmost importance, as it is not just his profession, but his duty is to fill those needs
rationally.
➤ the concept of zero waste architecture’ that is save natural resources, use less building materials, preserve land,
provide more greener space and better plot sizes.
“ Architecture can give form to belief and can make buildings into real
arresting brand intent.
DESIGN PRINCIPLES-W.R.T
PRESENT TIMES
➤ According to him,We have to find out new ways and have a
new approach towards designing our cities.
➤ For the past 25 years, he has been propagating that we
need to expand vertically and not be restricted by limited
FSI(floor space index).
➤ Although everybody likes to live in a bungalow, this
extravagant use of land is a crime; we need to use land
judiciously.
➤ We need sustainable compact tiered cities, and we need
to use water very sparingly.
➤ Special emphasis should be on social housing to
eradicate the housing shortage.
➤ For me, a sustainable, compact tiered green city is what
we need.
➤ Ar. Contractor is passionate about social housing and his
dream is to provide a house for every Indian.

concepts which are energy efficient.
➤ We must create structures which are both functional and have aesthetic
qualities.
➤ We must save natural resources.
➤ We must develop our concepts taking the clients requirements into uttermost
importance.
➤ We must change with time and current styles
➤ Houses must be built which are cost efficient and affordable so that everyone
has the opportunity to live in such houses.
