COURSE
DESCRIPTION
This course requires students with a minimum of 500
hours practical training in social work practice with
communities focused on working with a larger
collectivity i.e. grassroots community. Students during
this field placement are expected to demonstrate skills
in community organizing, linking needs and resources,
documentation, research and leadership.

• Supervised Field Instruction Requirements
1. Field Instruction (FI) is an essential
feature of the BSSW curriculum. It
requires students to spend a minimum of
1,000 hours as required by Social Work
Law RA 4373.

2. The College/department shall ensure that
an adequate number of social work faculty
members supervise the students. The
maximum faculty-student ratio shall be 1:10.

In the Philippines, Higher Education
Institutions ensure sustainable teaching and
learning delivery process through the
conduct of off-campus activities. These are
activities conducted by HEIs to supplement
and facilitate a more meaningful learning
experience for students in addition to the
regular classroom instructional programs
that are in accordance with specific degree
program requirements. 10
All students are expected to attend the
scheduled off-campus activity since it is part
of the regularly scheduled class time.
Working hours is from 8:00am-12:00pm-
1:00pm-5:00pm

Grading Criteria:
Knowledge- 25% ( Cognitive)
Skills- 25% (Psychomotor)
Attitude- 20% (Affective)
Written Outputs- 20%
Attendance- 10%

DO’s and DON’Ts in the Field
Don’ts
• Dating a client/family/partners e.g.
barangay worker
• Having sexual relations with a client
• Talking to the client about agency and
supervisory problems
• Giving out personal number
• Any provocative or seductive behavior

• Stealing from client or supervisor
• Any wilful violation of barangay protocols
• Verbal demonstration of disrespect
• Refusal to take directions from the
supervisor except personal and beyond
student’s tasks
• Putting the clients in jeopardy
• Repeated manifestation of irresponsible

• Refrain from posting live videos while
working, rather observe proper
documentation of your organizing efforts.
