Bluetooth Layers

L2CAP(Logical Link Control and Adaptation Protocol)

 Used for data exchange on an ACL link
• ACL(Asynchronous Connection-Less) is communications protocol.
 Specific duties – Multiplexing, Segmentation and reassembly, Quality of Service(QoS), and Group Management.

1. Multiplexing -

2. Segmentation and Reassembly

Maximum size of payload field in baseband layer is 2774 bits(343 bytes).

• 4 bytes to define the packet and packet length
• So, packet arrive from upper layer can only be 339 bytes.

3. QoS(Quality of Service)

 Bluetooth allows the stations to define a QoS level.

 If Qos not defined, Bluetooth defaults to Best-effort service .It will do its best under the circumstances.

4. Group Management

 To allow devices to create a type of logical addressing between themselves.

Primary stations Secondary stations

 During the time that one frequency is used, a primary sends a frame to secondary or
secondary sends a frame to primary.

NOTE- => Communication is only between the primary and a secondary.

=> Secondary cannot communicate directly with one another.
