Expo 2015
EXPO 2015
Expo 2015 was a
Universal Exposition hosted by
Milan, Italy. The opening took place
on May 1, 2015, and closed on
October 31, 2015. It was the
second time Milan hosted the
exposition. The first was the
Milan International of 1906. On
November 23, 2010, the event was
officially announced by the
International Exhibitions Bureau (BI
E)
.The BIE General Assembly in
Paris decided in favour of the
Milanese candidature on March 31,
2008] Expo 2015 was held under
the theme Feeding the Planet,
Energy for Life
The Eiffel Tower

Constructed in 1889 as the

entrance to the 1889 World's Fair, it
was initially criticized by some of
France's leading artists and
intellectuals for its design, but it
has become a global cultural icon
of France and one of the most
recognisable structures in the
world. The Eiffel Tower is the most-
visited paid monument in the world;
6.91 million people ascended it in
2015.
The Eiffel Tower
The main structural work was
completed at the end of March 1889
and, on 31 March, Eiffel celebrated
by leading a group of government
officials, accompanied by
representatives of the press, to the
top of the tower.[ Because the lifts
were not yet in operation, the ascent
was made by foot, and took over an
hour, with Eiffel stopping frequently to
explain various features. Most of the
party chose to stop at the lower
levels, but a few, including the
structural engineer, Émile Nouguier,
the head of construction, Jean
Compagnon, the President of the City
Council, and reporters from Le Figaro
and Le Monde Illustré, completed the
ascent. At 2:35 pm, Eiffel hoisted a
large Tricolour to the accompaniment
of a 25-gun salute fired at the first
level

EXPO 2015
The area occupied by the Expo 2015 site is
located about 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) northwest of
Milan in the municipalities of Rho and Pero, and
covers an area of 1.1 km2 (0.42 sq mi). It is
adjacent to the new Fiera Milano fairgrounds,
designed by Massimiliano Fuksas, whose project
may be considered the cornerstone of the urban
redevelopment of the entire area. The zone had
long been an industrial area before being
converted to logistical and municipal services and
agriculture. The fairgrounds and the Expo site
were connected by a pedestrian bridge adjacent
to the Rho-Perohigh-speed rail station. Originally
planned cycle paths were never initiated, and it
was impossible to arrive by bicycle. Several
motorways were built or expanded to allow access
to the site.
The chosen area is oblong in shape with an
overall length of nearly 3 km (1.9 mi), immediately
suggesting the idea of a main axis conceived as a
boulevard along which the pavilions would be
located. The design of pools and waterways in
and around the Expo area has been an element of
primary importance in the three phases.

The Tree of Life at night
The Tree of Life

The tree of life, the 35 meter

structure which will be built in the
middle of Lake Arena and will be the
icon of the Italian Pavilion at Expo,
begins to take shape. The first part
of the metal support structure was in
fact installed before, practically the
base (around 37 meters high) of the
Tree, which will then be covered with
wood and completed with the
technological equipment which will
allow more than one hundred special
effects. «This tree – said the creator
Marco Balich in the past – will bloom
every hour of the day and ‘explode’
at night» , with images, projections,
inflatable and water screens, smoke
clouds and soap bubbles: 1,260
shows 10-12 minutes each that will
alternate during the six months of
exposure.
The Tree of Life and
Michelangelo
The 35 meters high twine of wood and
steel
was inspired by one of the most
meaningful
masterpieces of the Italian Renaissance:
the pavement of Piazza del Campidoglio
(Rome)
designed by Michelangelo. The Tree of
Life
is also an allegory of “Vivaio Italia”, the
breeding ground theme Italy has chosen
for
the participation to EXPO 2015. The
elegant
structure, deep-rooted in the fertile ground
of
“Vivaio Italia”, soars towards the sky,
depicting the dialogue between past and
future, tradition and innovation.
The Tree of Life
The concept of a tree of life is a
widespread mytheme or archetype in
the world's mythologies, related to the
concept of sacred tree  more
generally, and hence in religious and
philosophical tradition.
The expression Tree of Life was used
as a metaphor for the
phylogenetic tree of common descent
in the evolutionary sense in a famous
passage by Charles Darwin (1872).

The tree of knowledge, connecting to

heaven and the underworld, and the
tree of life, connecting all forms of
creation, are both forms of the
world tree or cosmic tree, according to
the Encyclopædia Britannica, and are
portrayed in various religions and
philosophies as the same tree

Expo and Arcimboldo
The Icon of Expo
ARCIMBOLDO
Giuseppe Arcimboldo started his
career as a designer for stained
glass and frescoes at cathedrals
when he was 21 years old.
In 1562, he became court portraitist
to Ferdinand I at the Habsburg
court in Vienna, and later, to
Maximilian II and his

son Rudolf II at the court in Prague.

He was also the court decorator
and costume designer. Augustus,
Elector of Saxony, who
visited Vienna in 1570 and 1573,
saw Arcimboldo's work and
commissioned a copy of his "The
Four Seasons" which incorporates
his own monarchic symbols.

Arcimboldo
Arcimboldo's conventional
work, on traditional
religious subjects, has
fallen into oblivion, but his
portraits of human heads
made up of vegetables,
plants, fruits, sea creatures
and tree roots, were greatly
admired by his
contemporaries and remain
a source of fascination
today.

Origan Sin
Original sin, also called
ancestral sin, is the
Christian doctrine of
humanity's state of sin
resulting from the fall of
man, stemming from Adam
and Eve's rebellion in Eden,
namely the sin of
disobedience in consuming
from the tree of knowledge
of good and evil. This
condition has been
characterized in many
ways, ranging from
something as insignificant
as a slight deficiency, or a
tendency toward sin yet
without collective guilt,
referred to as a "sin nature",
to something as drastic
as total depravity or
automatic guilt of all
humans through collective
guilt
