introduction

• Ganga is the largest river in India with an extraordinary

religious importance for Hindus. It provides majority of
the water to the North India which is about 40% of
India’s population across 11 states, serving an estimated
population of 500 million people or more, which is larger
than any other river in the world. This means that the
pressure on Ganga River is extremely high. Over time this
pressure has begun showing. This pressure is due to the
water pollution that we dump into the river. Let’s take a
closer look at all that goes into our sacred Ganga River
SCOPE OF THE STUDY

• To review the water pollution and impact of ganga

river using internet.
OBJECTIVE
• To know the impact of water pollution in
ganga river.
METHODS
• To identify relevant papers for inclusion in the review, I used the
popular search PubMed and google scholar.
• Using the key words “water pollution”,”health effect”.

• This process identified 10 relevant papers.

• After scrutinizing through all the 10 relevant papers 5 were related
to water pollution and its impact on health.
• Out of which 4 were identified for the review which were related to
water pollution and its impact on health.
• Databases from 2003 to 2015 was searched.

CONCLUSION
• The main causes of water pollution in Ganga
river are the increase in the population density.
• A number of initiatives have been undertaken to
clean the river but failed to deliver desired
results.
• Programs should look at the entire Gangetic
basin while planning and prioritizing investment
instead of the earlier town-centric approach.
