PPS-PP3-044-2.0
Electromagnetic insertion flowmeter
for water distribution networks
Advancements
· Operates in pipe diameters 80 mm
to 2000 mm
· Minimum flow velocity 0.02m/s
· Maximum pressure rating 25 Bar
· Long battery life up to 10 years
(dependant upon response time)
· Robust
- stainless steel probe tip base
- 25 Bar operating pressure
- strong safety chain
Why use PrimeProbe?

· Can be installed in a pressurised pipe –’hot-tap’ capability

· No moving parts
· Accurate over wide, bi-directional, flow range
· Rugged construction
· Price almost independent of pipe diameter
· Optionally data available via GPRS / 3G
Applications
Temporary installations
 Flow surveys
 Flow profiling
 Network problem investigation
 Checking in-situ flowmeters

Permanent installations
 Network management
 Leakage monitoring
 District metering (DMA’s)
Features
 ‘Hot tap’ capability - allows the meter to be
inserted under full working pressure without
interrupting the water supply
 Fits into existing pipes without need for
major excavations associated with full bore
meters
 It may be installed with the sensor on the
pipe centreline or at the position of mean
velocity (1/8 pipe diameter)
 Use in water with low conductivity
(20μS/cm) – allows measurement in pure
water such as in mountainous areas
 Pressure measurement available via quick
release fitting and connection to Primayer
data loggers
SMART modes of operation
 Four modes available with response time to suit flow conditions
and with choice of battery life

The table below is an extract from ISO 7145 (BS 1042): Section 2.2: 1982
Minimum upstream straight length*
Type of disturbance upstream from Mean axial velocity Axis of the
the measuring cross section conduit
90° elbow, T-bend 50 25
Several 90° coplanar bends 50 25
Several 90° non-coplanar bends 80 50
Total angle convergent 18 to 36° 30 10
Total angle divergent 14 to 28° 55 25
Fully opened butterfly valve 45 25
Fully opened plug valve 30 15

* Expressed in multiples of the diameter of the conduit

Downstream from the measurement cross-section, the
straight length shall be at least equal to five duct
diameters whatever the type of disturbance

Programming

Minimum programming
details required:
· pipe diameter
· insertion point
· mode
· maximum flow
Flow Profiling Software
· Flow velocity greater at pipe centre-line and slower
at sides due to resistance generated by pipe-wall
· Profile is measured at points across pipe diameter
· Profile represented by a pipe cross section showing
velocity relative to distance from pipe wall
· Provides for more accurate installation of
PrimeProbe
· Typical application; full-bore meter validation
Optional items

 Gauging Rod – for accurate measurement of internal pipe diameter

 PrimeProbe System – consists of Probe, gauging rod, PrimeLog+2i,
cables, flexible hose and transport case
