The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) is the world's leading

authority on the skyscrapers. Recent reports by the organisation have

predicted the 20 tallest buildings in the world by the year 2020 and revealed
the number of skyscrapers completed last year.

Frank Lloyd Wright

Frank Lloyd Wright (June 8, 1867 – April 9, 1959) was an American
architect, interior designer, writer and educator, who designed more
than 1,000 projects, which resulted in more than 500 completed
works. Wright promoted organic architecture (example:
Fallingwater), was a leader of the Prairie School movement of
architecture (the Robie House and the Westcott House), and
developed the concept of the Usonian home (exemplified by the
Rosenbaum House). His work includes original and innovative
examples of many different building types, including offices,
churches, schools, hotels, and museums. Wright also often designed
many of the interior elements of his buildings, such as the furniture
and stained glass.
Wright authored 20 books and many articles, and was a popular
lecturer in the United States and in Europe. His colorful personal life
often made headlines, most notably for the 1914 fire and murders at
his Taliesin studio. Already well-known during his lifetime, Wright was
recognized in 1991 by the American Institute of Architects as "the
greatest American architect of all time".

"Early in life I had to choose between honest arrogance and hypocritical humility. I chose
honest arrogance." It should come as no surprise who uttered those words—the architect of
the famed Robie House, Frank Lloyd Wright. The residence, with its tight recessed entry leading
to dramatic light-filled openness, seamless space unencumbered by needless partitions,
continuous bands of windows, its horizontal, low-slung form, and overhanging eaves, is what
the architect called "a cornerstone of American architecture."
Robie House, Chicago
Frederick C. Robie House
The Robie House, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for his client
Frederick C. Robie, is considered one of the most important buildings
in the history of American architecture.

Designed in Wright's Oak Park studio in 1908 and completed in 1910,

the building inspired an architectural revolution. Its sweeping
horizontal lines, dramatic overhangs, stretches of art glass windows
and open floor plan make it a quintessential Prairie style house.

Although it was designed more than ninety years ago, the building
remains a masterpiece of modern architecture. Tours of the site offer
both a first-hand experience of its amazingly contemporary spaces and
the current restoration work that is returning the house to its original
appearance.

"Architecture is the triumph of human
imagination over materials, methods and
men, to put man into possession of his
own earth.

Machinery, materials and men—yes—these

are the stuffs by means of which the so-
called American architect will get his
architecture....Only by the strength of his
spirit's grasp upon all three—machinery,
materials and men—will the architect be
able so to build that his work may be
worthy the great name architecture.
Bring out the nature of the materials, let
their nature intimately into your scheme....

Reveal the nature of the wood, plaster,

brick or stone in your designs; they are all
by nature friendly and beautiful.“
