Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna

A general, Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, was

president of Mexico. In early 1836, he led an
army of several thousand men into Texas to
end the revolt .He headed towar San Antonio.
There, some 180 Texans held off Santa Anna’s
army for nearly two weeks. Finally, on March 6,
the Mexican forces stormed the Alamo.
Fierce hand-to-hand
fighting followed. By the
end of the battle of the
battle of the a Alamo , all
of the defenders were
killed. They included
Davy Crocket and James
Bowie, two famous men
of the frontier. Around
600 Mexican solders
were killed or wouned.
