ENG T 193 -Intermediate CAD with CATIA 3D Experience

DESCRIPTION
• A multi-winged ornithopter design,
intended in exploring the possibilities in
multi-winged flight.

• Each section of the ornithopter is

modular, meaning that the amount of
systems it has can change. Likewise, the
wing pattern can be changed at will.

• The CG (center of gravity) of each

system can vary, so an equivalent
counterweight is added.

• The gear/arm system can work with two

different configurations; two wing or four
wing.
FINAL PROJECT DRAWING
INITIAL DRAWINGS/CONCEPTS

The initial design of the ornithocopter had

two moters on each side of the aircraft. While
this provided some control, it was also too
heavy. A slimmer design was needed…

The main purpose of the gear system of an ornithocopter, is to provide
sufficient arm movement per rotation so that the supported wings can
generate enough upward thrust for flight. One way to improve the thrust, is to
reduce the aircraft's weight. Thus, the two-motor design was discarded and a
multi-geared, single-motor design was pursued.

Each part of gear system was created separately using the part design and
was brought together in assembly.
