DEFINITION OF CENTRIFUGE

A centrifuge is a device for picking up

samples at high speed, forcing heavier
particles to accumulate tp the bottom of the
centrifuge tube. The most common use is for
the separation of components of blood cells
and processing of urien samples.
CENTRIFUGE FUNCTION
Its function is to separate the components from
the liquid, so that the components can be inspected.
Usually a centrifuge is used to :
1. Separating blood components (so they can form
a serum)
2. Urine ( formed sediment, use for microscopic)
3. In the parasitology examination ( example : px
concentrated sugar, concentrated salt)
4. Separe water samples
CENTRIFUGATION PRINCIPLE
1. The working principle of the centrifuge is that the
object is rotated horizontally at a radial distance from
the point where the force is pressed. Where the object is
rotated, the particles will separate and scatter according
to the weight of each particle. With the most important
force is the centrifugal force.
2. This force causes particles toward the tube wall and
accumulate to form deposits
PARTS OF CENTRIFUGE
1.Motor
High motor speed will produce high
centrifugal force.
2. Speed control
To adjust the speed of the motor to suit
the needs withoutaspeed control the
motor will rotate at maximum speed
3. Timer
Server to regulate the lenght of time the
tool works
4. Break the system
Motor breaking is needed so that the
motor rotation can be stpped
immediately
THINGS THAT NEED TO BE CONSIDERED
1. Centrifuge tube must be placed at a crossing
2. Make sure the centrifuge is clean (no broken glass)
3. Do not open and close when centrifuging
4. Centrifuge must be placed in the data position
5. Clean the inner wall with antiseptic solution every week or if it spills or
there is a broken tube
6. Use a tube with the right size and type for each centrifuge
7. The load must be balanced before the centrifuge is run(size and volume)
8. Ensure that the cover closes properly and tightly before running the
centrifuge
9. Check the bearing on the tube container . If the bearing is not available ,
the tube break easily when in the centrifuge because of the strong
centrifugal force pressing the glass tube to the bottom of the container.
CENTRIFUGE MAINTENANCE
1. Clean from broken tube, blood spills, serum and
disinfection at any time
2. Clean the outside and inside avery day
3. Timer : monitor the timer according to use or
monitoring every once a week
4. Calibration : measure the rotation speed using a
calibrated tachometer and do it once a month
5. Braking system : always follow the manufacturer’s ,
recommendations, taking the centrifuge tube is done
after the rotation position has completely stopped
6. Power supply : check cables, plugs and sockets
