INTRODUCTION
 wood is widely used as the
major raw material in
paper production.
And thus it has continued
to worsen the issues of
natural resources due to
massive deforestation.
 About 30 million acres of
forest are destroyed
annually.
INTRODUCTION
 And but as the use of paper
cant be stopped or limited.

 economically and eco-friendly

option i.e. byproducts of
seasonal cycles – fallen leaves
can be introduced into
application.
INTRODUCTION
 Our study aims to extract
cellulose from freshly
fallen leaves or dried
leaves for making paper

 Leaves Sample used -

leaves from plumeria tree
from our college campus.
PROCEDURE

 waste fallen dried leaves

were collected.

 Paper is typically
produced by abstracting
the cellulose fibres and
pressing or compressing
them together.
PROCEDURE
 Cellulose fibre can be found in a number of organic
materials such as leaves, grasses, etc. other than just
inner tree bark.

 chemical composition of fallen leaves varies depending

on the age of the leaves and the place where it falls

 compositions of leaves were studied and analysed for

determining their chemical contents.
INTODUCTION
 The content of cellulose varies within 60-80%.

 In addition to cellulose, lignin-containing

components, hemicellulose, and rosin are found.

 Ash content varies within 2%.

PROCEDURE
 two big leaves were broken down in small pieces.

 First the leaves were treated with mild H2 SO4 ( 0.4%) for
about an hour .

 then after subsequent washing when it becomes neutral pH

then chlorination is done with 3.5% of CaOCl2 solution ,
stirring continuously at about 30℃ .

 then again washed to neutral pH , it is now treated to alkaline

extract of 20% NaOH solution with continuously stirring for
about an hour.
PROCEDURE
 Again after washing it to neutral pH , the material was
collected manually and spread in an alluminium plate and
was left to dry for one day at room temperature and then
if necessry after the day it was oven dryed at 60℃.

 the final dryed sample was weighed to determine its

yield.
RESULT
 from 20.5 gram leaves the dryed product obtained -
