✣ Rizal was a student of medicine in the
Universidad Central de Madrid when he
started writing the book.
✣ He was 26 years old when it was
published.

✣ Early of March 21, 1887 in Europe
when the novel was commonly called
by its shortened name “NOLI”
✣ Its English translation was “Touch Me
Not” and “The Social Cancer”

✣ Harriet Beecher Stowe’s Uncle Tom’s
Cabin- the one that influenced Jose
Rizal to published a book that would
reveal the ills of the Spanish-colonized
Philippine Society.
✣ January 1884- Rizal suggested the
creation of the book (Noli Me Tangere)
in the Paterno residence

✣ January 2, 1884- Rizal explained on his
letter that his proposal on the book
was unanimously approved.
✣ He noticed that his ‘compatriots’ were
more interested in writing about
women instead and spending their
time gambling and flirting with Spanish
women.

✣ 1885- Rizal left France and that time he
had written the third quarter of the novel
in Paris.
✣ April to June 1886- were he penned the
last chapters of Noli in Wilhelmsfeld.
✣ End of 1886-the novel was completed in
Berlin, Germany
✣ 1887-final draft was ready for publication

about Rizal’s
quandary.

✣ P 300- was the money that Viola lend
to Rizal and thus used to print the first
2,000 copies of the Noli.
✣ March 29, 1887- where the Noli Me
Tangere came off the press according
to some references.

✣ For his generous act, Maximo Viola had
go ne down to the Philippines as “The
saviour of Noli”.
✣ As a token of gratitude, Rizal gave him
the galley proofs of the novel around
the pen used in writing the Noli.
