Stack Tower

• A flue gas stack is a type of chimney,a vertical pipe

through which flue gases are exhausted to the outside
air.
• Types of Chimney:- there are three main types of
chimney-
• 1. Self supported steel chimney (physical height < =
70m)
• 2. Guyed/structure supported chimney(height 70-
90m)
• 3. Reinforced concrete cement chimney(90-150m)
Design Parameters-
1.Diameter of chimney D 4𝑄𝑔/ 𝜋𝑣𝑠

2.Height of chimney H 14(Qs)^0.33

3.Draft Pd 0.35*H*Patm(1/Ta-1/Tga)
Design calculations
1.Flow rate of flue gases Qg 50.847 kg/hr

2.Stack exit velocity Vs 20 m/sec

3.Emission rate of SO2 Qs 72 m^3/sec

4.Atmospheric pressure Patm 101325 pa

5.Ambient temperature Ta 303K

6.Average flue gas temperature Tga 413K

•Flow
  rate of flue gases Qg=50.847 kg/hr
=50.847*.0010*3600
=183.04 m^3/sec
Diameter of chimney D=4*Qg/π*Vs

=4*183.04/3.14*20
= 3.414 m
Height of chimney
H=14*(Qs)^0.33
=14*(20*0.0010*3600)^0.33
=57.417 m
Draft
Pd= 0.35*H*Patm*(1/Ta-1/Tga)
=0.35*57.417*10132
