2/3 Warm Up - Factoring Review

Unit 2
Lines, Angles, and Figures
Unit 2 Learning Target 1

LT1: I can give precise definitions in

Geometry.
1. Point

A point in geometry is a location. It

has no size (i.e. no width, no length
and no depth).
A point is shown by a dot.
2. Vertex

a meeting point of two lines that form an angle.

3. Line

a line of points that extends infinitely

in two directions.

A line is defined by two points and is

written as shown below with an
arrowhead.
4. Ray

✘ a line with an endpoint that extends

infinitely in one direction
5. Line Segment

✘ part of a line that is bounded by two

distinct endpoints
6. Intersecting

✘ a point, line, or curve common to two or

more objects.
7. Congruent

✘ identical in form; same size and same

shape
8. Adjacent

✘ having a common vertex and a common

side.
✘ next to or adjoining something else.
9. Angle

✘ is the figure formed by two rays.

10. Acute Angle

✘ An angle whose measure is between 0°

and 90°
11. Right Angle

✘ an angle of 90°, as in a corner of a

square or at the intersection of two
perpendicular straight lines
12. Obtuse Angle

✘ is a form of angle that measures wider

than 90° and less than 180°
13. Straight Angle

✘ an angle of 180°.
14. Complementary Angles

✘ are two angles with a sum of 90°.

15. Supplementary Angles

✘ are two angles with a sum of 180°.

✗ A common case is when they lie on the
same side of a straight line
16. Vertical Angles

✘ each of the pairs of opposite angles

made by two intersecting lines.
17. Perpendicular Lines

✘ A line is perpendicular to another if it

meets or crosses it at right angles (90°).
18. Parallel Lines

✘ Are lines in a plane which do not meet

✗ two lines in a plane that do not intersect or
touch each other at any point are said to be
parallel
19. Circle

✘ is a shape with all points the same

distance from its center
20. Bisect

✘ divide (a line, angle, shape, etc.) into two

equal parts.
21. Midpoint

✘ is the middle point of a line segment.

✗ It is equidistant from both endpoints
✗ It bisects the segment.
