DEFINITION

An uncontrolled fire in an
area of combustible
vegetation occurring in rural
areas.
CAUSES
1. Human factors.
2. Slash and burn techniques to
clear the land for agricultural
purposes.
3. Weak implementation of
regulations regarding slash-
and-burn techniques.
CONSEQUENCES
1. Habitat loss for local indigenous wildlife.
2. Hectares of ecologically-rich land have
been burned across Indonesia.
3. The fires have forced hundreds of
residents to evacuate to other cities
because of the hazardous air quality.
4. Because of hazardous levels of pollution,
residents may experience serious health
effects.
5. Major impact on global climate.
6. Weakening of diplomatic ties between
neighbouring nations.
CONCLUSION
• There has been efforts by the government to reduce the number of forest
fires, for example,
1. Water Bombs
2. Re-enforcement of regulations regarding land clearing
3. Sentencing the perpretrators to prison.
As environmentally thoughtful citizens of Indonesia, we have to take care of
the ecosystems that surrounds us so that future generations will be able to
breathe clean air like we do now.
Inferring from the points above most of these forest fires are caused by
companies that just want to clear their land quickly, just thinking of the profit
that they are making, not thinking about the consequences of their actions.
