Eduardo

Mutuc
MARCH 22, 1966
Eduardo Mutuc
• Eduardo Mutuc is an artist who has
dedicated his life to creating religious
and secular art in silver, bronze and
wood. His intricately detailed retablos,
mirrors, altars, and carosas are in
churches and private collections.
• His delicate craftsmanship and
attention to detail are apparent from
the smallest piece of metalcraft to the
forty-foot retablos he produces.
Form of Art
• Wood carving
a form of woodworking by
means of a cutting tool in one
hand or a chisel by two hands or
with one hand on a chisel and one
hand on a mallet, resulting in a
wooden figure or figurine, or in the
sculptural ornamentation of a
wooden object.
Form of Art
• Metalwork
useful and decorative objects
fashioned of various metals, including
copper, iron, silver, bronze, lead, gold,
and brass. The earliest man-made
objects were of stone, wood, bone,
and earth. It was only later that
humans learned to extract metals
from the earth and to hammer them
into objects. Metalwork includes
vessels, utensils, ceremonial and
ritualistic objects, decorative objects,
architectural ornamentation, personal
ornament, sculpture, and weapons.
• He discovered his talents in sculpture
and metalwork quite late. He was 29
when he decided to supplement his
income from farming for the relatively
more secure job of woodcarving.
Expertise
Metal Engraving
technique of making prints from
metal plates into which a design
has been incised with a cutting
tool called a burin. Modern
examples are almost invariably
made from copperplates, and,
hence, the process is also called
copperplate engraving.
“Craftsmanship begins with
respect for one’s tools and the
medium. ”
