MODELLO HIGHS
CFD RESULTS 1
Project: MODELLO HIGHS
OBJECTIVE
To investigate the performance of the system, so that there is adequate air
movement throughout the car park under normal operating conditions. i.e. 6
ACPH for normal mode.
"National Building Code of India-2016” states recommended ventilation
rate will ensure that the Carbon monoxide (CO) level is maintained within 40
mg/m3( 35 PPM) for 1h exposure , with a maximum of 29 mg/m3( 25 PPM)
for an 8h exposure .
In the event of fire (i.e. 12 ACPH), there should be a clear view to a height
of 1.7 metres for a distance of 30m at 45 minutes after the fire is started
(approximately 25 minutes after the fire is extinguished).

Project: MODELLO HIGHS FIRE SIMULATION
The fire simulation is done for worst case which ensures the effectiveness of ventilation system. This
simulation takes place by running the jet impulse fans of JTF 315 UD at air velocity of 16 m/s and JTF 355
UD at air velocity of 19 m/s (i.e. at full speed). All the Parking (14000 CMH of 2 Nos) & Smoke exhaust
axial fan (14000 CMH of 2 Nos) of the basement runs at full speed to achieve 12 ACPH and evacuate the
smoke.

CONCLUSIONS
The airflow in Basement shows good movement of air and found satisfactory.
CO study in the basement suggests that the amount of CO is less than 35 PPM at short term exposure
of 60 minutes and again there is good movement of exhaust gases towards the extract points in the car
park.
The smoke spread depicts a clear movement of air towards the extract point. The temperature profiles
follow the smoke movement as expected. Sight length was decreasing up to 20 minutes due to high heat
and smoke release and then an increasing trend was visualized from then.
The car park is free of smoke by 19 minutes of fire extinguish and there is good sight length for 30m
distance due to the satisfactory extraction of smoke by the ventilation system
Thus CFD methodology helped to properly locate the fans in such a way to remove air stagnation,
maintain CO level and evacuate the smoke in case of fire.
