Chemicals in daily Life
Starting from tooth brush & paste in the morning
every material we use is a product of
chemical/petroleum engineering
Course Objectives:

 Apply thermodynamic principles to the analysis of chemical processes and

equipment such as turbines, compressors, heat pumps, and refrigeration cycles
among others.
 Demonstrate the use and applications of the first and second laws of
thermodynamics.
 Understand and predict when real mixtures separate in different phases and how
this information can be used for the design of purification and separation systems.
 Predict the equilibrium products and their concentration in equilibrium when
dealing with systems involving chemical reactions.
 Find thermodynamic information for pure and real mixtures and use it to perform
thermodynamic calculations oriented to the analysis and design of chemical
processes.
The course outcome…
The course CHM203:CHEMICAL ENGINEERING
THERMODYNAMICS for engineers will enable students to …

 formulate the basic concepts and laws of thermodynamics.

 describe the volumetric properties of fluids.

 define the thermodynamic properties of fluids.
