Learning organisation facilitate
collective learning in order to
continually improve the capacity
to respond to changing demands
in the environment.
DEFINITION:
 “Aplace where people continually expand
their capacity to create the results they
truly desire, where new and expansive
patterns of thinking are nurtured, where
collective aspirations are set free, where
people are continually learning to learn
together”

FIVE CHARACTERISTICS OF A
LEARNING ORGANIZATION:
 Systems thinking : The idea of the learning
organization developed from a body of work.
 Personal mastery :  The discipline of
continually clarifying and deepening
employee’s personal vision, of focusing their
energies, of developing patience, and of
seeing reality objectively.
 Mental models : The assumptions held by
individuals and organizations.
 Building shared vision : Creates a
common identity that provides focus and
energy for learning. 
 Team learning : Accumulation of individual
learning constitutes team learning.

Actions for a leader to create a learning organisation:
 Drive people to learn by doing.

 Realize that training is just a tool to impart


knowledge. 
 Incorporate learning into your processes.

 Expose the teams to diverse learning resources.

 Use technology to accelerate learning and ensure


accessibility of knowledge.
 Involve people in important change initiatives.

 Promote the abilities of people to generate


alternative ideas and open up to different view
points.
 Allow people to make mistakes and learn from them.
