SAFETY OF INDIAN RAILWAYS

(NETWORKING OF GPS., SENSORS AND
SOFTWARE SYSTEMS WITH DBMS)
Indian Railways:
 World’s largest Railway network.

 Large means of public transport.

Drawbacks:
 Lack of sufficient Safety.

 Still wide use of manual and traditional methods.

 No separate rail lines for goods and passenger trains.

Introduction
What is G.P.S ?
 The acronym for G.P.S is Global Positioning

System.
 G.P.S is a worldwide network radio navigation

system.
 G.P.S constitutes a constellation of minimum

of 24 satellites.

How G.P.S is applicable to Indian Railways ?

 GPS will be used to get the details of the train such

as the speed and exact position of the train.
 Navigation in three dimensions.
 GPS will provide the means of the communication
Principle and working of the system :

 Childhood principle of checking whether a train is

coming or not by hearing the vibrations from the
track.
 Here GPS will be used to locate the exact position of
the train.
 Keeping track of the vibrations produced.
 Database maintenance.
 Comparing the vibrations produced with that of
database.

Microphone Sensors:

 Located near the track.

 Notes down the vibrations coming from the
track by the motion of the train.
 Converts sound signals into electrical pulses.
 Compares with the database.

Fiber Optic Cables:

 This transmission medium is used to transfer

data and signals with high speed equal to the
speed of light.

 Secured and Reliable transmission.

Software and DBMS:

 The main purpose of the software is to convert

the vibrations detected by sensors into useful
form.
 Using DBMS ,we maintain the details of
various analysis.
 Antennas are used as recievers and
transmitters.
