Viscoelastic behavior of plastic

Elasticity+Viscous

•Viscielasticity means when an external force is applied,

both elastic and plastic (viscous) deformation occur
•Plastic polymers deform elastically by elongation of the
chain molecules from their stable conformations in the
direction of the applied stress by the bending and
stretching of the strong covalent bonds.
•Viscous deformation occur while relative movement
between two planes of atoms.

Viscoelastic behavior of plastic

At the highest temperatures, viscous or liquid

like behavior prevails. While at low
temperature it behaves like solid and obey
hook’ law means behaves like elastic.
And for intermediate temperatures the
polymer is a rubbery solid that exhibits the
combined mechanical characteristics of these
two extremes; the condition is termed
viscoelasticity.

Viscoelastic Properties of plastic

The viscoelastic behavior of polymeric

materials is dependent on both time and
temperature
Stress is found to decrease with time due to
molecular relaxation processes that take place
within the polymer. We may define a
