0 PROBLEM STATEMENT
• Almost all producing formations are stratified to some extent.
• Production zone has different layers having different Pres, K and producing fluids.

• The production will come mainly from the higher permeability layers.
• A well producing from a stratified formation will exhibit a minimum GOR as the
rate of production is increased.
3.0 PROBLEM STATEMENT

• Major Concern: Interlayer cross-flow occur if reservoir fluid are produced from
commingled layer that have unequal Pi.

• The cross-flow greatly affects the composite IPR of the well

• Thus, the composite IPR is needed to develop in this study to further observe the
effect of stratified reservoir to well performance curve.
4.0 OBJECTIVE
The aim of this project is to study the effect of the stratigraphy on IPR, specifically on
Composite IPR. To achieve the objective, there are three elements of the objective that
need to study.

I. To study the meaning of the well stratigraphy and the function of Composite IPR.
II. To study the equation that was derived by Petrobras based on combination of
Vogel’s IPR equation for oil flow and constant productivity for water flow.
III. To determine the composite IPR curve geometrically from the equations and
simulation, considering the frictional flow of oil and water.
