Textual Analysis of my Music Video

Part 3- Evaluation

How effective is your

combination of the main
product and text?
Synergy
Here you can see that the main artist appears
throughout the video in a variety of shots and
locations.
This adds continuity between the ancillary products
and the final production.
The reason why we put the main artist on cover of
the DVD is so that the audience can identify the DVD
and associate it with the music video. We also put
stills from the actual production, on the inside of the
DVD Cover, this was also to help the audience relate
the production to our ancillary products.
The Title name ‘City Life’ is made very apparent
within the title, the ancillary products and the song
itself. It is evident on the DVD Cover because there is
a picture of Central London's landscape with the
Canary Wharf. There is also Charandas near the
Gherkin. All the sights represent London.
House Style
The house style throughout my music video is the
locations and the people within my music video.

The different locations used show the way which London is

seen. Using famous landscapes and tourist attractions ,
such as Big Ben, London Eye and Tower Bridge) which
represent London, and the ‘City Life’. At each location was
a different performer, this connotes that there are a variety
of people within London. The inner city is also shown on the
ancillary products, a landscape of London taken from
Greenwich Observatory.

The different characters/performers in our video symbolises

the variety of personalities and appearances that are
present around London. It shows different genders, ages
and ethnicities which gives a clear illustration of Central
London.

Theme
The theme is also the
locations within London as
that is what the song is
based on, ‘City Life’.

sound.’
Which means the
audience will get the
best quality of sound
then on usual DVDs.
The way which the main artist is
represented on the DVD is visible in
the production. Wearing what he feels
‘comfortable in’. This is what the
audience will expect him to look like if
on television. However, the other
performers in the video vary according
to their appearance. The variety of
appearances brands my production
and the ancillary product.
Mode of Address The words ‘OUT NOW’ on the magazine advert
appeals to our target audience. It is short, quick and
catchy, just like our music production with fast cuts.
The lyrics of the song are informal and was carried
on to the ancillary products appealing to our target
audience.
The MTV rating also appeals to our target audience
as many watch MTV, and the 5 star rating means
that the music video is up to the standards. Which
will make the audience want to watch it.

Representation of Artist
As there are a lot of different artists in my media production so the representation of each is depends on the
individual, this denotes the diversity of London. The main artist however is represented as an average
teenage boy, appealing to most teenage boys in London. The way the main artist is dressed is informal,
which again relates back to our ancillary products with the picture of the main artist and the language used.
