1. ‫كـتـاب األم‬

 The Kitāb al-Umm (Arabic: ‫ ) كـتـاب اــألمـ‬is the first exhaustive compendium of Islamic code
of law that is used as an authoritative guide by the Shafi'i school of fiqh (Islamic
jurisprudence) within the Sunni branch of Islam. The work was composed by the founder
of the Shafi'i school, Imām ash-Shāfi'ī (767-820 CE).
2. ‫كتاب الرسالة في أصول‬

 The Risāla by ash-Shafi'i (d. 820), full title Kitab ar-Risāla fī Uṣūl al-Fiqh (Arabic: ‫كـتاب‬

‫لاــرسـلة‬ "book of the communication on the foundations of comprehension
(i.e. Islamic jurisprudence)") is a seminal text on the principles of Islamic jurisprudence.
3.‫اصول السرخسي‬

 Muhammad b. Ahmad b. Abi Sahl Abu Bakr al-Sarakhsi (Persian: ‫محمـد بــنـ اـحمـد بــنـ اـبي‬
‫بـــر لاــسرخسي‬
‫ ) ســهل ابـو كـ‬was a Persian jurist, or Islamic scholar of the Hanafi school. He was
traditionally known as Shams al-A'imma (‫ شـمس اــألئمة‬, "the sun of the leaders").
4. ‫الفصول إلى معرفة األصول‬

 Al-Jaṣṣās (‫ لاــجصاص‬, d. c. 942; full name Abū Bakr Aḥmad ibn ʿAlī al-Rāzī al-Jaṣṣāṣ) was
a Hanafite scholar, mostly known as the commentator of Al-Ḫaṣṣāf's work
on Qādī (jurisprudence). According to Tillier (2009:281), the original work and its
commentary can now "hardly be separated: al-Khaṣṣāf's original text is included in al-
Jaṣṣāṣ's commentary".
5.‫اصول الشاشي‬

 Usul ash-Shashi (Arabic: ‫ أـصـول لاــشاشي‬, Uṣūl ash-Shāshī) is a text on usul al-fiqh (principles

of Islamic jurisprudence) according to the Hanafi madhhab. It is studied as part of
the Dars-i Nizami curriculum used in many Islamic seminaries, especially in South
Asia. There is a debate over the identity of the work's author
