PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE)


The table below depicts the PPE requirements related to COVID-19.

USE and CARE


• PPE must not be shared between different individuals
• Practise social distancing (Social distancing procedures minimises the risk of PPE
getting contaminated)
• Always wash or sanitize your hands before handling the PPE
• Inspect PPE for damage, cleanliness before use (if damaged or soiled, discard and
replace)
• Ensure the correct donning procedures are followed for the specific type PPE
• Remove PPE during meal and restroom breaks (ensuring compliance to social
distancing)
• Ensure that PPE is suitably stored (i.e. for face masks and respirators, store in a
breathable container in-between uses)
• Ensure that re-usable PPE (i.e. face masks) are properly marked, cleaned and
sanitized between uses

CLEANING and DISPOSAL
• Once worn – reusable face coverings (cloth face masks and face
shields) should be treated as contaminated material and washed
with soap and water and dried after each use.
(Note: this also applies to other PPE such as re-usable full face
respirators (i.e. Ammonia masks) and BA-set masks

PPE must be discarded once:


• If it is visibly damaged
• It has reached its maximum recommended use
• If it has been contaminated with blood, respiratory or nasal
secretion or other body fluids (masks and gloves) or other
• If it has become damp (masks)

How to discard:
Contaminated and damaged PPE should be disposed into:
• Designated bins
• Bins to have a self closing lid
• Fitted with a plastic bag that is easy to close
• Wash or sanitize your hands after disposing of the PPE.

(Where possible, the bin content can regularly be sprayed with


disinfectant spray)
