RECRUITMENT

WHAT IS RECRUITMENT?

Recruitment is the
process of ATTRACTING
potential employees
TWO TYPES OF RECRUITMENT
•EXTERNAL RECRUITMENT-
refers to recruitment from
outside sources

•INTERNAL RECRUITMENT-
refers to recruitment done within
the organization
METHODS OF INTERNAL

RECRUITMENT
•PROMOTION
-Promotion is an upward movement of
employee from current job position to a
hierarchically higher job position with increase
pay and responsibilities.

-It's a preferred source of recruitment as the

vacant post can be filled the existing employees
and it also motivates employees to improve
their performance.
•TRANSFER

-A lateral shift causing movement

of individuals from one position to
another usually without involving
marked change in duties,
responsibilities, skills needed or
compensation”.
METHODS OF EXTERNAL
RECRUITMENT
•ADVERTISEMENT- through websites, newspapers,trade
journals,radio,television,billboards,posters and email
aming others

•UNSOLICITED APPLICATION- received by employers from

individuals who may or may not be qualified for the job
openings

•INTERNET RECRUITING- Independent job boards on the

Web commonly used by job seekers and recruiters to
gather and disseminate job opening information
•EMPLOYEE REFERRALS- are recommendation
from the organization's present employees who
usually refer friends and relatives who they think
are qualified for the job

•EXECUTIVE SEARCH FIRM- Also known as "Head

Hunters;" help employers to find the right person
for the job. Such firms seek out candidates with
qualifications that match the requirements of the
job opening that their clients company hope to fill
•EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS- Good sources
of young applicants or new graduates who
have formal training but with very little work
experience

applicants for blue collar and professional
jobs

•PUBLIC QND PRIVATE EMPLOYMENT

AGENCIES- may also be good sources of
applicants for different types of job
vacancies for they usually offer free
services while private ones charges fees
from the both job applicants and the
employers soliciting referrals from them
The 4 Advantages of Internal
Recruitment
1) shows the suitability/ reliability of
candidates, from the organisations previous
records of them.
*For example, may show if they
continuously hitting targets

2) person is already experience - don't have

to train them in the procedures of the
organisation saving money
3) Creates a motivation
environment for other employees
since there are prospects for
promotion

4) much cheaper and quicker to

recruit internally so saves money
The 4 Disadvantages of Internal
Recruitment
1) may not find the best fit for the job from
only your pool of current employees.
2) no new ideas or talents brought to the
organisation.
3) demotivating or staff conflicts because of
competition of the same position.
4) just shifting the problem so may still have
an empty vacancy.
The 3 Advantages of External
Recruitment
1) larger pool of candidates means better
chances of getting the best fit for the job.

2) doesn't make an empty vacancy

somewhere in the organisation.

3) new ideas and talents brought to the

organisation.
The 3 Disadvantages of External
Recruitment
1) don't know the candidate properly. They may
or may not be reliable in the long run which will
wage recruitment time and money.

2) may not have complete skill set or experience

which will require training =money.

3) recruitment cost more and takes more time.
