Well Testing
Transient well tests measure
changes in reservoir pressure
associated with changes in well rates.
Measurement and analysis of the
time-dependent pressure response
can provide information about
reservoir. Transient well tests often
motivate changes in the way the well
is operated or the field is managed. It
discusses a section of transient well
tests for oil wells and gas wells and
illustrates how transient well test
information is used.
Pressure Transient Well Test is
sometimes called as Pressure
Transient Analysis. The primary
purpose of performing a pressure
transient well test is do determine
the key performance indicators of
an oil or gas well.
Drawdown
Test
Pressure drawdown is the difference between
the reservoir pressure and the flowing wellbore
pressure. The difference between reservoir
and flowing wellbore pressure is called
PRESSURE DRAWDOWN. The objectives of
a drawdown test are to determine skin, perm
and the distances to the reservoir’s
boundaries.
The main benefit of running
drawdown is that cash flow is
not interrupted. Another
advantage is that reservoir
boundaries are easier to locate,
relative to build-up tests.
Pressure Build-up
Test
The primary purpose of performing a
build-up test is to determine the wellbore
damage (skin) and the reservoir
permeability. However, during the course of
a build-up, it is possible to encounter
reservoir can also be determined. If all the
reservoir’s boundaries are contacted
during the build-up, the size of the reservoir
can also be determined.
A build-up test is one of the
simplest tests to perform. The
biggest advantage in performing
a build-up is that it is a constant
rate test: Q=0. Simply install the
equipment while the well is
flowing, then shut the well in
upstream of the choke.
