Safety First!

LEARNING TARGETS
● LEARNING TARGET 1: STAFF WILL DESCRIBE THE
PROCEDURES IN PLACE FOR EACH EMERGENCY
SITUATION.

● Tornado
● VCI (Violent Critical Incident)

FIRE DRILL & RESPONSE
NEW PROCEDURE:
○ HOLD And GO - Wait for Direction if Fire Alarm goes off. You’ll
either HOLD or GO

● REQUIRED TO ONE DRILL PER MONTH


● WE will try to let you know in advance.
● Review Classroom Map (Red Sign posted next to door)
● _________________is our relocation area
● Shut lights off, close door, DO NOT LOCK
● Take Emergency CLIPBOARD, take attendance and HOLD UP RED
CARD. Kathy checks Lobby bathrooms, Tammy checks 5th grade
bathrooms and Kevin checks 4th grade bathrooms.
Tornado Drill
● Close doors and windows
● Review Classroom Map (Red Sign posted next to door)
● Take Emergency CLIPBOARD and take
attendance
● Students should be in tuck position
● Required to do 1 drill per year
○ Spring drill
VCI - Violent Critical Incident

Violent Critical Incident… means just that. Anything violent. (i.e. angry parent that you can’t control, etc)

Goals: To Take back control or remove yourself from danger


● ALICE - Alert, lockdown, inform, counter, evacuate (not in order)
○ A - “We have a VCI in Zone 3” (alert=announcement, yelling, walkie, etc)
○ L - Administer Enhanced Lockdown (i.e barricade) - Don’t open
○ I - Call 911 - Be Specific (i.e. he’s got red shirt, etc.)
○ C - Counter/Distract (i.e. spread out and distract)
○ E - Evacuate (preferred response)

RUN, HIDE FIGHT VIDEO


Shelter in Place
Shelter in Place will be announced if we have a an
external threat (Teachers should bring walkie talkie
outside).

“We are in a “Shelter in Place”. Please stay inside


the building and lock the doors”.
Stay Put

Stay Put will be announced if we have a medical


emergency.

“We are in a Stay Put. ERT Team should meet us


in Zone 3”. Everyone should stay in classrooms
and Lock Doors.

SAFETY
PROTOCOLS
● IF YOU ARE IN DOUBT, CALL 911… (this is a service they provide)
● 911 CALL SHOULD BE MADE FROM EMERGENCY SITE/ROOM and
LET THE OFFICE KNOW. (Dispatch will want information from the
caller.)
● SAFETY FIELD TRIPS - Bring Safety Bag
● ALL STAFF WEAR BADGES / ALL VISITORS WEAR
IDENTIFICATION TAGS.
● ALL STAFF ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR MAKING THE CALL
● All Field Trips should be put on the Activities Calendar
● All Day Field trips - You’ll get envelop of medications.
