The Tiger King is the Maharaja of Pratibandhapuram, the hero of the story. He has an exceptionally long royal title but is often referred to as the Tiger King. As a ten-day-old infant, he uttered the words "o wise prophets," surprising all who heard. The royal astrologer predicted that the prince, born under the sign of the bull, would face death from tigers. The Tiger King grew up strong and was trained in English before taking the throne at age 20. He began killing tigers, with the astrologer saying the king could kill 99 tigers but if he killed the 100th, the astrologer would give up his profession.
