REFLECT…
• How did Gordon Ramsay describe Christine Ha’s
apple pie?
• Do you think Christine Ha can imagine what
Gordon Ramsay was describing? How?
LEARNING TARGETS:
• I CAN use adjectives or phrases to describe the five
senses.
• I CAN define sensory experience.
• I CAN write descriptive paragraphs.
SENSORY EXPERIENCE
• The reader personally experiences what the author
is trying to describe through sensory details—sight,
sound, touch, smell, and taste. Writers use these to
engage the reader’s interest, to remind them of
their own experience, giving your writing a
universal feel.

LET’S TRY IT!
Using your personal sensory
experience, write a short paragraph
describing your breakfast this
morning.
TICKET TO LEAVE…
Think of a specific element (e.g., air,
water, fire, or ice) or a plant or animal or
any object which you think represents
you. Write a paragraph why this element,
plant, animal, or object represents you.
EXAMPLE:
“I would like to be represented by the birds. I love
adventures but I am afraid of new things. The birds are not
easy to catch and may often look afraid when they fly very
high, but they travel much farther than we do and that’s
what I like about them. I sing a lot and that’s what I love
most about birds. Singing makes me feel like I’m flying. It
gets me higher when I’m at the top of my voice. Birds
represent peace because of their appearance and
movement and I’m that kind of person, always calm, silent
but flying very high.”
“ If no one told you they
love you, remember I DO.
