• A patient presented to us with missing mandibular
1st molar (tooth#46), 2nd molar (tooth#47) and 1st premolar (tooth# 34) • According to Kennedy's classification, the patient had class III with modification 1. TREATMENT OPTIONS: Fixed - Fixed partial denture on teeth - Implant as an abutment. Removable - Removable partial denture. - Removable overdenture on implant FIXED PROSTHESIS:
1. Fixed partial denture on teeth:
• A bridge consists of two or more
anchoring teeth called the abutment teeth. • A false tooth in between called pontics. Procedure: • Duringfirst visit abutment teeth are prepared. Preparation involves recontouring these teeth by removing a portion of enamel. • Next, impressions of teeth are made, which serve as model from which bridges, crowns and pontic are made in dental lab. • A temporary bridge is placed to protect the exposed teeth. • During second visit temporary bridge is removed and new metal or porcelain bridge is placed. 2. IMPLANT AS AN ABUTMENT • Damaged tooth is removed • Grafting of jaw bone: This is done when jaw bone is not thick or too soft. • Dental implant placement: In this holes are drilled into the bone where the dental implant metal post will be placed. Post is implanted deep into the bone because it serves as the root. • Bone growth and healing: In this process of osteointegration begins. • Abutment placement: In this surgery is done to place the abutment. • Artificial tooth placement: In this crown is cemented with abutment. REMOVABLE PROSTHESIS: 1. REMOVABLE PARTIAL DENTURE:- • A removable partial denture usually consists of replacement teeth (artificial teeth) attached to a pink or gum-colored acrylic base (denture base), which is connected by metal framework (clasps) that holds the denture in place in the mouth. 2. Removable overdenture on implants Procedure: • Dental implants are placed in the jaw bone and anchor replacement teeth. • The removable denture are secured by implants. THANK YOU !
