Crop Adaptation

Temperature
• Jute crop grows well in rainfed, moderate,
warm humid atmosphere and sunshine
conditions.
• 25°C to 30oC is ideal temperature for jute
cultivation.
• Temperature below 20oC and above 40oC is
harmful, because it restricts plant growth.
Rainfall and Relative humidity
• Jute cultivation requires annual rainfall of 160cm to
200cm from march to may.
• Young jute plants are very sensitive to water logging
conditions. Capsularis plants in later stages of growth
can tolerate water. Olitorius plants however fail to
grow under waterlogged condition.
• Relative humidity of 70-80% is require for successful
jute cultivation.
Soil
• Jute needs a plain alluvial soil and standing water.
• Alluvial sandy loam, clay loamy soil are best suited
for jute production.
• PH range between 6.5 -7.5 is best for its cultivation.
