For this project SIR Gehry found inspiration in soaring glass-and-steel structures of the 19th century, including the Jardin’s
own Palmarium. The center’s design features a number of the hallmarks—curvaceous swirls, dynamic asymmetries, an
irrepressible optimism—that characterize Gehry’s earlier groundbreaking works. Only here, glass replaced metal as the
defining material. "The idea of using glass was a positive force in gaining support from the mayor of Paris,"
Frank gehry’s idea was to interpretation of a huge ICEBERG placed in a water bassin .Gehry had to build within the square
footage and two-story volume of a bowling alley that previously stood on the site; anything higher had to be glass. The
resulting glass building takes the form of a sailboat's sails inflated by the wind. These glass sails envelop the "iceberg", a
series of shapes with white, flowery terraces. To observe city-mandated height restrictions, the architects excavated the
site and erected the structure below grade, set within a reflecting pool that underscores its nautical air and suffuses the
edifice with shimmering light. A terraced waterfall at one end adds a kinetic element. AIKTC SOA I AD8

ASSIGNMENT 01 HANOI MUSEUM,vietnam,GMP ARCHITEKTEN

The Hanoi Museum is embedded in a park with ample water features.Architect believes that ‘an architectural landmark
should communicate itself ,it need not to be interpreted but provide possibilities for interpretation’.The shape of the
museum is very clear; it is PYRAMID FORM born out of the necessity to respond to climatic condition with high humidity
and hot summer in meaningful way. This is because people need to be able to stay in museum for long time and exhibits
should protected from uv radiation. The actual museum building is a solitary structures surrounded by water which flows
towards the park in small cascading staircase, terrace building is reflected in the water Within the square building, a
central circular atrium links an entrance level with the three exhibition levels. These are arranged as terraces projecting
further outwards on each higher floor, forming an inverted pyramid. The upwardly projecting storys effect in each of the
layers below a shading, which is part of the energy efficiency concept. While the interior will be protected from direct
sunlight, also a protective effect is created for the exhibits. For visitors, the effect is that looking out, they seem to be
floating over the landscape .gradual transitions between the natural and built environments gently guide visitors .
