What is the Intellectual Property?

• According to Cornell Law School, intellectual property is any product


of the human itellect which is protected by law against unauthorized
use of others. Inherently, intellectual property creates a limited
monopoly on protected property. Traditionally, intellectual property
includes four categories: patent, copyright, trademark, and trade
secrets.
• June 6, 1997 – The Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines
otherwise known as Republic Act 8293 was signed into law and it
became effective on January 1, 1998
• In the Philippines, the intellectual property system existed before the
country even declared an independent state
