Aquatic Veterinarian

Aquatic Veterinarians are practitioners that specialize in the


treatment of marine animals.

Duties:

❏ Conducting basic exams and evaluations


❏ Working with animals in large tanks
❏ Taking x-rays or sonograms
❏ Vaccinations

Education - Must successfully graduate with a Doctor of


Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an accredited school
and pass the North American Veterinary Licensing Exam
(NAVLE). They may also get a board certification, which
takes added years of school.

Salary - Median wage $82,040 as of May 2010


Zoo Veterinarian
Zoo Veterinarians are vets that have more in depth training in
treatment with exotic animals.

Duties:

❏ Administering sedation
❏ Giving vaccines
❏ Cleaning teeth
❏ Assisting with captive breeding programs

Education - Must graduate with a DVM degree from an


accredited school and passing the NAVLE. Then, a one year
internship, a three to four-year residency in an approved
zoological medicine program, secure letters of recommendation,
and take a two-day board examination.

Small Animal Veterinary Technician (Vet Tech)
Small Animal Vet Techs assist Veterinarians with medical
procedures.

Duties:

❏ Helping with physical exams


❏ Assisting with surgeries
❏ Doing dental cleanings
❏ Sterilizing & cleaning equipment

Education - Must have a strong background in mathematics and


bio science. Then get an Associates Degree from an accredited
program and pass the National Veterinary technician Exam
(NVTE), Certification requires a degree in the field, lots of work
experience, and completed case logs and reports before being
eligible to take the exam.

Salary - Median wage $31,030 as of 2010
