Theme: Celebrating Biodiversity'—a concern that is both urgent and existential
Urban forest programme • Launched by Ministry of Environment ,forest and climate change.
• These will be on public private partnership (PPP) mode.
• Fencing will be done by the government but planting, public convenience
infrastructure, walkways can be done by private companies as part of their corporate social responsibility. Benefits •CO2 Sequestration • reduce Air pollution •Provide foods •Noise and dust pollution reduction. •
Restoring all degraded forests of world would
capture about 205 billion tons of carbon in total (which is about 2/3rd of all carbon emissions) • India’s emissions are still very low – at only 1.8 tonnes of CO2 per capita – which is much lower than the world average of 4.2 tonnes.
• A fully-grown tree can annually absorb up to 150kg of carbon dioxide
(CO2) . 12-15 trees is enough per person to nullify co2 emmited.
•India’s pledge under the Paris Agreement is to reduce the carbon intensity
(see below) of its economy by 33-35% by 2030, compared to 2005 levels. Do we have any model? Thank you
