given area or section of a power grid. It could affect a single house,
building or an entire city, depending on the extent of the damage or
cause of the outage. A power outage is also known as power
failure, power blackout or simply as blackout.
BLACKOUTS

• Its short or long term loss of electric power to an area.

CAUSES:
• Faults at power stations.
• Damage to electric transmission lines, substation or other of the distribution
system.
• Short circuit, or overloading of electricity main.
EFFECTS:
• Total loss of power to an area.
• Tripping of substation.
BROWNOUT

• A brownout is an intentional or unintentional drop in voltage in an electrical power

supply system.

CAUSES:
• Use excessive loads causes reduction in voltage which in turn causes
brownout.
EFFECTS:
• Unexpected behavior in system with digital control circuits.
• The system can experience glitches data loss and equipment failure.
