PARAGRAPH
Thetopic sentence is the first
sentence of your paragraph.
The topic sentence implies
the main idea, point, or
argument of your paragraph.
The body of the
paragraph contains
the supporting
details that develop
the main idea.
The closing
statement restates
the main idea using
different words.
SAMPLE PARAGRAPH
Even before the colonial
period, the various groups that
inhabited the Philippine islands
already had a literary tradition
that showcased their rich
culture and their links to
neighboring lands.
Ethnic groups had their own epics
which explained their histories,
customs, and beliefs. They also had
varied narratives as in myths and
legends which, like epics, involve the
supernatural. Moreover, the early
Filipinos also had their own poetic
forms such as folk lyric, folk songs,
and dirges.
Needless to say, we truly
have a precolonial
literature that we can be
proud of.
