Origins of Pentecostalism

• Origins trace back to the apostles


• Modern day Pentecostal movements relate back to the late
19th century
• Pentecostal is derived from the word Pentecost
• Pentecost means: The Jewish festival of Shavuoth
• Shavuoth is a festival in which thanks is given to god
• Thanks is given for the 10 commandments
• The symbol of the Pentecost is:
Beliefs

• Many believe in changing their lives through the faith of Jesus


• Is an evangelical faith
• Believe that the Bible is divine and an inspiration for ones life
• The four fundamental beliefs of Pentecostalism:
Jesus saves all; John 3:16
Jesus baptizes with the Holy Spirit; Acts 2:4
 Jesus heals bodily injuries; James 5:15
Jesus is coming again to receive those whom he saved;
Thessalonians 4:16-17

Baptism

Anointing with the oil
• These are the main ones
• Baptism there are two types of baptisms
• Communion is symbolic
• Foot washing it was more common when the religion first started but it is still
done
• Anointing with the oil  represents the works of the Holy Spirit.

• The cross, fire, doves, water, and oil are among the many biblical symbols they have adopted

• The Book of Acts as a blueprint for the Pentecostal
